Losing your biggest client…

Okay, today I learned that one of our biggest clients is leaving us. This was an incredible blow that in some respects I saw coming but, believed that in the end our success and resources would guide us to a continuance of the relationship. Not so. Our biggest client has walked out the door.

I am filled with questions, and answers about where we went wrong. Ultimately there was a management change, and new management brought their team to the table, and we were shown the door. Not a whole lot we could have done, or could we have?

Looking back, I can see several instances where I had the chance to tighten the relationship a bit more but, I took those moments for granted. My incorrect thinking was I would have the same access to management that I had enjoyed previously regardless of who, and that some of the older guard who had remained in place would in fact remain loyal to me. That was not the case in both cases. My access was limited, and at times relegated to lower tier people within the organization, and those that were at one time loyal instead focused on their own job security.

The intensity of the time and thought that has been dedicated to this client, is now vacant. This allows me the uneasy luxury of having more time to think…

How to make it in America. Stay tuned.
