—LAM & GRINS:
Whoever said indie rappers are broke, never spoke to Lam & Grins. Hailing from opposite sides of the country but, sharing a near identical upbringing in Hip Hop, Lam out of Salt Lake City, Utah and Timmy Grins representing from Vernon, NJ, met on the Vans Warped Tour in 2004. The two of them quickly formed a mutually competitive respect for one another as both are certified CD hustlers. They toured several times together around North America stopping not only for shows but, anywhere they could move a few units. They hit malls, the Vegas strip, swap meets, flea markets, car shows, truck stops, bus stops, rest areas, crowded sidewalks, and smashed the notion that you can not sell physical copies of your music in this day and age. To date each has sold greater than 15,000 copies of recorded material almost all of that has been hand to hand.

—Timmy Grins:

Timmy Grins started his career in music as the frontman for touring Hip Hop crew Arcane in 2002. Immediately he began creating events as a means of cultivating not only his crew but, also the Baltimore, MD Hip Hop scene. Since, he has created events on a local to national scale like “The Elements Party”, a monthly all elements Hip Hop concert, and “The 3rd Rail”, the ultimate Hip Hop and Snowboard mashup. He has developed some of the most viewed video content on the web and tv with shows like “The Breakdown”. He owns and created Hip Hop ice cream and coffee shops like “NY’s Finest”.

Most importantly he has returned his talents to his communities by participating as a hands on, in the belly of the beast, type of activist against the violence and ills that plague the neighborhood in which he owns his home, Clay Street in Annapolis, MD. On Clay Street, he has used the forces of Hip Hop and web video to curb violence and fear by organizing the monthly “Clay Street Supper Club” and “Clay Street Cyphers”. Also, he has engaged community leaders from politicians to street level drug dealers and helped to get Clay Street designated an Arts and Entertainment District, paying homage to the many famed musicians who spent time on Clay. Further, he has produced video about: the untold stories of the forgotten people, interracial discussions in times of near crisis, publicizing the predatory institutions of his neighborhood, and the parties to celebrate the legacy of Clay Street.

HipHop is in the White House

Recognize the movement. Barack has opened the door, now we must play our part, get in where we fit in, each of us has a role to play. Do not bask in the glory of the moment for too long, you know Obama won’t.

Lead by example. The whole do as I say not as I do is played out like Kwame and the polka dots, what you DO is what rocks the spot.

America, both Barack Obama and John McCain called you out last night. What are YOU going to do?

Peace and progress,
Grins
